This project was coordinated by the Environment Ministry in the Regional Authority of Castilla y León in order to protect Margaritifera margaritifera in the SACs of the natural park in Lago de Sanabria and its surroundings; banks and tributaries of the Tera and Tuela Rivers. It was carried out between 2003 and 2007.

Life in UK Rivers was developed between 1999 and 2003. Guided by the English Nature, this project was centred on the conservation of those rivers that were classified as Special Areas of Conservation (SACs) and included within the Habitats directive. 

Restoration of the fluvial ecosystems containing freshwater pearl mussel

This project was coordinated by the University of Helsinki between 1997 and 2002. It aimed at the recovery of the fluvial systems in order to improve the habitat of Margaritifera margaritifera in the Finnish region of Pirkanmaa.
