Other projects LIFE+

This project was fostered by the Forest General Direction and Environment in the Autonomous Delegation from Gipuzkoa, with the collaboration of Councils and other Institutions, between 2005 and 2010. Among its objectives was the contribution to the management of fluvial habitats within the SAC Aiko Harria (Guipúzcoa, Spain), in order to improve their conservation status as well as the species’, mainly the Galemys pyrenaicus.

The German region of Eifel is near the Belgian frontier and watered by numerous rivers. This area was the object of a project to restore the habitats of some species such as black stork, lamprey and freshwater pearl mussel.

Between the last 2004 and 2009, World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) carried out a project to improve the life conditions of Margaritifera margaritifera within 21 rivers in South Sweden, with the collaboration of social entities.

This project was coordinated by the authority of the French natural park Morvan between 2004 and 2009. Its numerous pools and waterfalls were the object of a plan of recovery that benefitted Margaritifera margaritifera populations.

This project was carried out by the department in charge of rural and environmental development in Germany between 2002 and 2007. It aimed at protecting the habitat of Margaritifera margaritifera in the frontier zones of Bavaria, Soxony and the Czech Republic.

Between 2002 and 2007, the Belgian government carried out this project in order to protect the habitat of Margaritifera margaritifera within the rivers of the region of Valonia. It counted on the support of the Association of Natural Resources RNOB and Hautes Fagnes Natural Park.
